52 THOUGHTS ON “GOOGLE & COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS: POST #3 (PD. 2)”

  1. i think its a good thing. you should know who your talking to and potentially employing. if you did do something bad online then you should be punished for it and make sure you dont put anything bad online cause it can affect you for the rest of your life.

  2. Its a good and a bad thing because people who are offering a job or like giving you an interview for something should be able to what you are like and how you act. If you u are not posting bad things online its fine but if you are that could be a bad thing. So I think it is fair they do its just bad for people who post bad stuff. Also i think it could be bad thing becasue your friend or someone you knew had been on your account and said or posted something that you wouldnt and then you could get denied for whatever because of something you didnt do. So its good and bad.

  3. Its a great idea. They don’t know who they are going to hire. For all they know he/she could a crazy weirdo that wants a job. Thats another reason to think before you post.

  4. I think they should because if someone is trying to get into collage they should be able to look at what you do and say on the internet.

  5. it is important to know how somebody interacts with other people they dont know, and reading over your social media history and conversations can help.

  6. I think it’s good that employers use info they find on the internet about you to determine if you fit the job because a lot of the things a person posts reflects what kind of person they are. But a bad thing would be if they got hacked, and some of the things the employer read or saw weren’t really posted by them.

  7. I think it is fair for jobs and colleges to look at your history on the internet because it shows alot about who you are. That is why it is important to think before you post online because once something is on there, it never really leaves. You don’t want something that you did in high school to affect opportunities in the future.

  8. I think they should do background checks for colleges and businesses for safety. For example let’s say you’re on vacation and hotels you are staying at does not do background checks and just hires anybody. So you’re staying at this hotel and you leave to go out to eat or you go somewhere. While you’re away your room gets clean by the people who work at the hotel. Would you rather have a criminal clean your room were you left or keep your phone or wallet in and they could easily steal it. Or would you want the hotel to do background checks and know who they are hiring so you can trust them. I also think they should do a background check for businesses because if you have things constantly getting stolen from your hotel not a lot of people will want to stay there because you have a bad reputation and then you won’t make any money so you might lose your business. But if you know who you’re letting into your business or collage you hopefully won’t have a bad reputation so you will get a lot of business. So I think it’s a good idea to do background checks for businesses and colleges.

    • I agree, especially if they interview that person like face to face it’s just as easy to trick the employer then too.

  9. I think it’s a good & a bad thing. Good because I understand that they don’t want someone that does bad things or that has a bad reputation going to their school, but bad because what if it was a friend that posted it or if you were young & immature & didn’t know better.

    • Erika, excellent points on both accounts. But that is why we are covering this topic because being immature and “not knowing any better” just is not an option anymore.

      Mr. Kirsch

  10. Yes, i think that they should be able to because then they get a better understanding of who you are outside of work or college. Also that the things you post can affect on if you get the job, scholarship, ect

    • I never thought of that, but yeah like if you do it online you’re more than likely going to do in person as well.

  11. Yes, I think that they shouls be able to look at People social media profiles. This would give them a better understanding of what they were getting in to when they are hiring or admitting them to a school.

  12. I think its ok because they should be able to know. I mean they don’t want to give a scholarship to someone who is posting bad things online. Although they should let the student know why they didn’t get it and they need to check when it was posted. If its a recent post that’s ok, but if it were posted a long time ago that’s not fair.

  13. I’m half on and half off on this topic because i do feel as though it were a background check but i also feel that if it was just one silly mistake then an A student shouldn’t be deprived college because of one stupid mistake.

  14. Colleges should be able to go through peoples history on social media networks to know what kind of student they would be getting.

  15. I thinks it is fair because the college that is offering you something should be to able do a backround check on you. And as long as your not posting anything inappropriate you should have nothing to worry about.

  16. It just helps you realize you have to watch what you post if you dont. And how you’ve spent your social life before college, they have a right to know too. But if thats what they depend on to insure a scholarship towards you.. thats a little harsh depending what you get that scholarship for.

    • Yeah thats true, you should watch what you post and it could be harsh for the scholarship if it wasnt that big of a deal.

  17. I think they should be able to check because maybe someone looks like they are all good until you check they’re social networking accounts and find stuff that is innappropriate.

  18. I think that they should be able to see what you put on the internet because if your posting it on twitter Facebook etc. What’s the point of not letting other people see it to. Cause once it’s out its always there

    • yea like if you post rued commets. you shoud not type rued post because people will thank that you are stuped and would not what to talk to you ever!!!! so thank good and not negtive. because stuff can follow you around all the time throw out your holw life aways…

  19. I think it pretty fair because if you do anything inappropriate online, youre more likely to do it in person too. So when they are looking for people, they have the right to know how you usually act. If you dont post anything wrong, you dont have to be worried about it.

  20. I think that if you post stuff on the internet it could come back to hurt you. Colleges and stuff should be able to check that and not let you do stuff if you made mistakes posting stuff.

  21. I think that what ever you do and post on the web can end up hurting you in the long run. So you sould make good choices when on the web and posting things. So therefor I agree that they should look at what you post on the web.

  22. I think it is fair because the people who are offering the job/interview should be able to look up how that person acts in their free time, and as long as you are not posting anything inappropriate it wont matter if they search you.
